Older Adults with Cognitive Impairments Can Enjoy Drop-in Program with Supervised Activities, Lunch in Community's Memory Care Suite
WHIPPANY, N.J., October 11, 2017 (Newswire.com) - The Lester Senior Housing Community in Whippany is inviting area seniors with memory issues to take part in its extended “Friends & Neighbors” program. The casual day program is available to older adults who are living at home and are seeking opportunities for activities and socializing.
Those with cognitive impairments may come participate in specially designed activities on a group and individual level and have a kosher meal and snacks in the community’s new Memory Care Suite, located in the Weston Assisted Living Residence. Participants and their loved ones will also have an opportunity to become acquainted with the Memory Care Suite’s caring staff and help caregivers get to know their loved ones. The Lester Senior Housing Community is located at 903-905 Route 10 East on the Alex Aidekman Family Jewish Community Campus and is owned and managed by the Jewish Community Housing Corporation of Metropolitan New Jersey (JCHC).
Memory Care at Lester offers compassionate, person-centered care for adults ages 62 and older with Alzheimer’s and other dementia-related diagnoses. The suite’s intimate, supportive environment includes:
· A community room for crafts and games, music programs and other therapeutic activities;
· Comfortable lounges for socializing;
· A quiet room for relaxation;
· Dining room where residents can eat at their leisure;
· Outdoor roof deck with a garden, pergola and seating
· Central care manager station and elopement prevention system for resident safety and security.
Caregivers are specially trained in Alzheimer’s and dementia care through Comfort Matters®, a nationally recognized best practices accreditation process. The approach emphasizes individualized care plans that focus on each person’s wellness of mind, body, and soul. Family and social connections also enhance residents’ overall health and well-being.
